MOSCOW June 10. 2024 (Saba) - The Republic of Niger is ready to deploy a Russian comprehensive military base on its territory, Russian media has said.
We are interested in the existence of a Russian comprehensive military base. We are ready to host it, Honorary Consul Ado Ero said, as Niger, in this way, wants to reduce the number of terrorist attacks, according to Izvestia newspaper.
On June 8, the United States began withdrawing its forces from Niger. An agreement was reached on the withdrawal of American forces from the country in mid-May.
Last March, Niger ended a military agreement with the United States, according to which an American base for drones was established in the north of the African country.
The Nigerian authorities indicated that the agreement was imposed on the authorities and did not agree with the interests of the people.
At the end of 2023, there were about 1,100 American military personnel in Niger, most of them stationed at an air base near Agadez city.
