PARIS May 31. 2024 (Saba) - The French cities of Metz and Lille announced on Friday that they are ready to receive refugees fleeing the Gaza Strip since the start of the Zionist aggression on the Gaza Strip.
Mmayor of Metz in northeastern France François Grodidier said in a statement that his city is “ready to receive families fleeing the war in Gaza,” adding that the war in Gaza “causes a huge humanitarian tragedy and affects people who are forced to leave the area, which has become a battlefield, without possible shelter.”
“Metz has informed the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs of its willingness to receive families who have fled the war,” he said.
“Metz has always contributed to the reception of refugees who are victims of war,” he said, referring in particular to the reception of “Syrian and Ukrainian refugees”. This French city has a population of about 120,000 people.
The municipality explained to AFP that this proposal came in response to a request from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The municipality of Lille in northern France, which has received refugees from Afghanistan and Ukraine in recent years, also told AFP that it “received approval to receive two Palestinian artists” and is “ready to receive others.”
However, this city of 230,000 inhabitants did not clarify who gave this approval.
The aggression on Gaza caused massive destruction, displaced the majority of Gaza's estimated 2.4 million people, and caused a major humanitarian catastrophe in the world.
