SANA'A May 11. 2024 (Saba) - The Shura Council held on Saturday its third meeting of the second session of the year 1445 AH under the chairmanship of the Speaker of the Council Muhammad Hussein Al-Aidarous, and in the presence of the Council's Vice-Presidents Muhammad Al-Durra, Abdo Al-Jundi, and Dhaifallah Rassam.
The meeting, in the presence of the Secretary General of the Council, Ali Abdel Moghni, the Deputy Minister of Public Health and Population, Dr. Mutahar Al-Maruni, the Chairman of the Supreme Authority for Drugs, Dr. Ali Abbas, the Director of the Union of Importers of Medicines and Medical Appliances, Dr. Abdul Rahman Al-Hamel, the Advisor to the General Federation of Drugs, Dr. Abdul Rahman Al-Alfi, and a number of representatives of national pharmaceutical companies, discussed the report of the Council's Public Health and Population Committee on "Drug Security".
In the meeting, the Speaker of the Shura Council pointed out that the pursuit of pharmaceutical security was at the top of the priorities of the country's leadership due to the systematic targeting of this vital sector by the US-Saudi-UAE aggression and its repercussions that affected the pharmaceutical industries and led to the shortage of medicine.
He stressed the importance of giving the pharmaceutical industry more attention and development and harnessing the necessary capabilities to develop scientific research and innovation in a way that contributes to the improvement of the pharmaceutical industry and raising the number of its varieties. He pointed to the importance of preparing a map of the priorities of health projects, establishing zones for pharmaceutical industries, and preparing a guide for investments in the health sector to reach the creation of a safe medicine accessible to all.
Al-Aidarous stressed the need to strengthen the partnership between the public and private sectors to achieve achievements in the pharmaceutical industries in line with the achievements achieved by the wisdom of the revolutionary leadership and the Supreme Political Council in a number of fields.
He praised the efforts of the Ministry of Health in curbing the spread of cholera. He appreciated the efforts of the Health Committee of the Council in preparing the report and its recommendations that contribute to strengthening the country's efforts to achieve strategic drug security.
The President of the Council called for providing the necessary facilities to all national pharmaceutical factories in appreciation of their steadfastness and efforts in providing medicines in the local market during the past years of aggression.
The meeting listened to the presentation of the Chairman of the Public Health and Population Committee of the Council, Dr. Fikri Al-Aqrabi, and the Vice-Chairman of the Committee, Dr. Ali on the objectives included in the report aimed at creating a drug stock, providing raw materials and benefiting from herbs and plants suitable for pharmaceutical manufacturing. They stressed the importance of concerted efforts to reach the creation of an industrial infrastructure and qualified local cadre to provide raw materials, medicines, supplies, devices and medical solutions.
The report recommended the importance of building strategic warehouses in accordance with standards and specifications covering all Yemeni geography to store the country's need for medicine for long periods.
The recommendations stressed the need to accelerate the completion of the rehabilitation of the drug control laboratory and to start developing strategic plans to build factories capable of covering all the needs necessary for drug insurance.
