SANA'A October 18.2023 (Saba)-His Excellency Field Marshal Mahdi Al-Mashat inspected today,Wednesday, the progress of work at the General Company for Potato Seed Production in Dhamar province.
During the visit, accompanied by the parliament Speaker,Yahya Ali Al-Rai, the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs - the Minister of Finance in the caretaker government, Dr. Rashid Abu Lahoum, and the Governor of Dhamar, Muhammad Nasser Al-Bukhaiti, the President inaugurated the scientific, research and production achievement of “higher-rank” potato seeds produced locally by the Yemeni hands and cadres , to dispense with importing seeds from abroad.
During the visit to the company's production lines and cold stores, President Al-Mashat heard from the director of the potato seed production company, Engineer Hamdan Zaid Al-Akwa, an explanation of the company's tasks and its role in providing farmers' needs for potato seeds, and the steps the company has taken in achieving self-sufficiency.

The President highly appreciated the successes achieved by the General Company for Potato Seed Production in producing seeds locally through tissue farming and achieving self-sufficiency in potato seeds without having to import them from abroad.
It pointed out that this step will contribute effectively to strengthening the national economy and achieving food security, stressing his great support for such qualitative steps that come within the framework of efforts aimed at achieving food security, reducing the purchase bill from abroad, and strengthening the national economy.
The President Al-Mashat considered the company’s successes an important step to motivate various institutions to move forward to reach self-sufficiency, pointing to his keenness to support local production and contribute to advancing the wheel of development.
T¹he President praised the efforts of the national technical and research cadres that resulted in achieving this success despite the challenges imposed by the aggression and siege.
For his part, the potato seed production company director, Engineer Al-Akwa, appreciated President Al-Mashat’s visit to the company, noting that the company’s successes translate the directives of the revolution leader,Sayyed Abdul-Malik Badr Al-Din Al-Houthi, and the support President Mahdi Al-Mashat, the government, the Supreme Agricultural and Fish Committee, the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation, and the efforts of technical and administrative staff. The company cooperates with research and academic institutions.
He stated that the launch of the “higher grade” production project, represented by the production of “zero generation mini-toppers,” is the culmination of the company’s efforts and endeavors to achieve self-sufficiency in potato seeds, and at the same time represents a qualitative leap on the path to achieving food security.
