Tourism, Promotion Council, Sana'a University celebrate World Tourism Day

SANA'A October 03. 2023 (Saba) - The Ministry of Tourism, the Tourism Promotion Council, and Sana'a University on Tuesday organized a special event on the occasion of World Tourism Day under the slogan "Green Tourism and Investment."

The Executive Director of the Tourism Promotion Council Jarallah Fadel stressed the importance of holding the event at Sana’a University as an academic institution that contributes to supplying the labor market with qualified and reliable tourism cadres that serve the archaeological and tourism sector in the country.

Fadel pointed to the extent of the severe damage to the tourism and antiquities sector as a result of the continued US- Saudi aggression against Yemen, estimated at six billion dollars.

Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Arts at Sana’a University Sakina Hashem expressed her overwhelming happiness at holding such an event at Sana’a University, considering it an embodiment of the university’s role in developing and developing tourism work.

She stressed the continuation of coordination efforts between the university, represented by the Department of Antiquities and Tourism, the Ministry of Tourism, and the Promotion Council, in holding these events, which reflect the depth of cooperation between community institutions to advance the tourism situation and remove it from its stumbling block.

The celebration, which included folkloric and poetic performances and an exhibition of heritage and traditional crafts, was attended by a number of officials from the Ministry, the Council, and the University.

During the event, they visited the Museum of the Department of Antiquities and the Tourist Gallery by photographer Mohammed al-Sayaghi, which reflects the extent of the severe damage to the tourism and antiquities sector in Yemen.

The World Tourism Organization declared World Tourism Day (September 27) in 1979, but its official celebration did not begin until 1980.

The celebration of this day aims to enhance awareness of the importance of tourism and mutual understanding, leading to the dedication of efforts to protect cultural heritage and preserve the environment.

The United Nations indicated in a report on the occasion that the global tourism workforce will need millions of hospitality sector graduates annually until 2030, and another 800,000 jobs annually require specific vocational training.
