MOSCOW July 25. 2023 (SABA) - The Secretary-General of the Russian Security Council, Nikolai Patrushev, confirmed on Tuesday that today's global terrorist organizations are a tool to strengthen the influence of the United States and its allies.

The TASS news agency quoted Patrushev during the meeting of the heads of security councils of the BRICS countries as saying: "The majority of the major modern terrorist groups are created, supplied with weapons and financed by intelligence agencies implementing Western States' decisions."

He noted that terrorism "as it currently exists, is a direct tool to strengthen the influence of the United States, its followers and its allies.

Moscow regarded cooperation between the BRICS States in the area of counter-terrorism as one of the Group's priorities and its States.

"We oppose the politicization of international counter-terrorism cooperation and the use of double standards in this area, and we are convinced that the fight against terrorism must be based on universal norms and principles of international law."
