HODEIDA April 12. 2023 (Saba)- The Governor of Hodeidah, Muhammad Ayash Qahim, met with the new head of the Red Cross (ICRC) sub-delegation, Ashot Astabatsyan.
In the meeting, which was attended by the Undersecretary of the Governorate for Services Affairs, Muhammad Suleiman Hulaysi, Governor Qahim welcomed the new head of the Red Cross mission in Hodeida province branch, expressing hope that the ICRC would play an active role in supporting the province's service and humanitarian needs.
He noted the contributions of the Red Cross sub-delegation in the province during the last period in supporting a number of priority projects, as well as the humanitarian presence in supporting a number of service sectors that were affected by the aggression and siege.
Qahim reviewed the province's emergency needs in the areas of water and environmental sanitation, especially in light of the current water crisis suffered by the residents of Hodeida city square, as a result of the cessation of diesel support for the Water Corporation to pump water and alleviate citizens' suffering.
For his part, the Director General of the Water and Sanitation Corporation in the province, Abdul Rahman Ishaq, touched on the corporation's need for support to supply it with diesel after the withdrawal and suspension of funding-supporting organizations, which led to difficulty in operating wells and pumping water, and the corporation's inability to provide costs for the purchase of diesel.
Ishaq called on the active humanitarian organizations in Yemen to cooperate and play a humanitarian role during this stage, in a way that helps the Foundation to provide water to citizens and continue to pump it to all regions to address the current crisis.
For his part, Ashot expressed his appreciation for the leadership of the province, stressing that he will work to strengthen the role of the mission in partnership and to enhance the priorities of interventions with projects to face the changes in the humanitarian situation in the province.
After the meeting Qahim, the deputy governor, and the leadership of the Water Corporation honored the former head of the sub-delegation of the Red Cross, Alexander Aikoy, in appreciation of his humanitarian efforts during his tenure in the province, whose impact was reflected in alleviating part of the suffering of the province of Hodeida under difficult circumstances.
