Istanbul - Saba:
Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced that one person was killed and 29 others were injured following a 6.1-magnitude earthquake that struck Balıkesir Province in northwestern Turkey on Sunday.
In a press conference held in Balıkesir, Yerlikaya confirmed that "an 81-year-old man has died," noting that the injuries sustained by the 29 others are not life-threatening, and that search and rescue operations have concluded.
The minister reported that 16 buildings collapsed in the province’s rural areas, 12 of which were abandoned structures.
The earthquake occurred at 7:53 p.m. local time, causing widespread panic in the region. Residents gathered in open areas, while authorities urged the public to stay away from damaged buildings.
