Iranian media reported on Saturday that the United States arrested an Iranian engineer named Bahram Mohammad Estvar, a legal permanent resident of the country, upon his arrival at Los Angeles International Airport on charges of violating sanctions against Iran.
Iran's Mehr News Agency reported that the US Department of Justice announced Friday evening local time the arrest of the CEO of an Iranian engineering company on charges of exporting advanced electronic equipment from the United States to Iran and violating US sanctions.
The US Department of Justice added in a statement: "An Iranian citizen and legal permanent resident of the United States was arrested on a four-count federal indictment for the illegal export of electronic equipment used in railway signaling and telecommunications systems from the United States to Iran, in violation of the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) and the Iran Trade and Sanctions Regulations (ITSR)."
According to the statement, Bahram Mohammad Estvary, 66, a resident of California and Tehran, was arrested Thursday afternoon local time upon arrival at Los Angeles International Airport. Estvary is charged with one count of conspiracy to violate the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) and three counts of violating the IEEPA.
