Budapest - Saba:
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán stated that a personal meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart, Donald Trump, is necessary to achieve peace in Ukraine.
In an interview with the Patriota YouTube channel, Orbán explained, "I am confident—and I say this as an 'old fox' in diplomacy, having seen more than any current European politician—that a ceasefire and peace here (in Ukraine) will be achieved if there is a face-to-face meeting between the Russian and US presidents. Phone calls will not work."
He indicated that if direct negotiations begin, "a ceasefire can be achieved very quickly," but without that, the situation will not change for several months to come.
Earlier, Russian Presidential Aide Yuri Ushakov confirmed that the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the United Nations in October could be a good reason for a possible meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump.
"This could happen at any moment," Ushakov told Russia 1 journalist Pavel Zarubin, commenting on the timing of a possible meeting between Putin and Trump
