Gaza - Saba:
The Khan Younis Municipality, in the southern Gaza Strip, warned on Sunday of an environmental and health disaster resulting from the halt in the supply of fuel needed to operate water and sewage facilities, pumps, and service delivery mechanisms.
This has been ongoing for several days, as a result of the Israeli enemy preventing the entry of fuel to UN agencies and organizations operating in the Gaza Strip.
In a statement, the municipality confirmed the complete cessation of basic services in Khan Younis, particularly in the water and sewage sectors, and the disastrous impact on citizens and displaced persons.
It pointed to the spread of environmental and health disasters resulting from the shutdown of stations, which will result in the flow of sewage into the streets and the spread of more diseases and epidemics among citizens. It also noted the inability to operate water wells and desalination plants, depriving more than 900,000 people of their most basic right to clean drinking water.
The municipality noted the halt in service delivery and emergency maintenance mechanisms, which will result in the spread of health hazards and fatal diseases among the population.
It urged the international community and human rights organizations to intervene urgently and immediately to end the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip, which has devastated all aspects of life.
It called for donor agencies and UN organizations concerned with human life to pressure the Israeli enemy to resume supplying local bodies in the Gaza Strip with the fuel needed to operate water wells, desalination plants, sewage pumps, and service delivery mechanisms, and to bring in the necessary machinery and equipment to prevent the collapse of the service system.
