Brussels - (Saba):
The European Commission intends to impose trade tariffs on aircraft manufactured by the American aerospace company Boeing as part of a plan to retaliate against US tariffs.
The Financial Times, citing unnamed informed sources, reported on Wednesday that Brussels plans to take this step if trade talks with Washington fail and if it fails to achieve a reduction in US tariffs imposed on European goods.
According to the newspaper, the European Commission may include civilian aircraft on its list of countermeasures against US goods worth approximately 100 billion euros. The decision will not take effect until approved by a majority of EU member states.

One source stated that the tariffs that the European Union will impose on civilian aircraft and possibly on US chemical products will take effect on April 14.
The Financial Times reported that the European Commission and Boeing declined to comment on the matter. Earlier, Euractiv reported, citing sources, that the European Commission is drafting additional countermeasures against US goods worth nearly €100 billion in response to the tariffs imposed by the administration of President Donald Trump.
