Sana'a - Saba:
A national symposium on consumer rights and protection against fraud and imitation was held in Sana'a on Tuesday, organized by the National Organization for Quality Control and Consumer Rights.
The Symposium aimed to introduce the most prominent legislation, laws and procedures to address the phenomenon of commercial fraud, establish an effective partnership between government agencies and civil society organizations, activate ways to confront the phenomenon of commercial fraud and reduce its effects, in addition to exchanging expertise and experiences between agencies and institutions concerned with combating various commercial fraud activities.
It emphasized the need to integrate efforts between all government agencies and the private sector to protect the health and safety of consumers. Speeches emphasized the need to implement campaigns to raise awareness of consumer rights and reduce manipulation and commercial fraud.
The speeches reviewed the objectives of the symposium and its role in promoting awareness of consumer rights and developing the necessary policies to protect them. They pointed out the importance of the cooperation of all partners from the government, private sector and civil society to achieve the goals of consumer protection and ensure access to safe and high-quality products.
The recommendations of the symposium emphasized the need to strengthen the role of the media to implement educational programs and inform consumers of their rights.
They called for the need to activate and modernize laws related to the prevention of commercial fraud and imitation and the establishment of a special prosecution for urgent consumer cases.
The recommendations stressed the importance of supporting the Yemeni Standards, Metrology and Quality Control Authority and enabling it to have an effective presence with its cadres and devices as prior protection at the ports of entry.
