HAJJAH August 31. 2024 (Saba) - The Emergency Committee in Hajjah Governorate, headed by Governor Hilal Al-Sufi, discussed on Saturday aspects related to flood damage treatments in the directorates and the measures taken in anticipation of a new wave of floods.
The Chairman of the Emergency Operations Committee, Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Malhani, reviewed the number of victims of floods, house demolitions, thunderstorms, and injuries since August 5-30, which resulted in the death of 39 people and the injury of 40 others.
He also reviewed the total and partial damage to homes, roads, means of transportation, health facilities, schools, water projects, agricultural lands, livestock, buses, and vehicles.
He touched on the rockslides that occurred and potentially, the activities carried out, the assistance provided by government agencies and humanitarian partners during the mentioned period, and the most important needs to face the damage.
He also touched on the challenges faced in the field, solutions and proposals to avoid this in the future, the difficulties facing the operations room and ways to address them, the role of the media in highlighting the magnitude of suffering and preventive treatments to protect the homes and properties of citizens.
The Director of the Engineering Unit, Eng. Abdullah Al-Haddad reviewed the studies that have been prepared to implement several projects with community initiatives to build retaining walls in several areas in the governorate center.
The director of the branch of the Geological Survey Mohammed Al-Qadmi reviewed the causes of damage, the necessary treatments, and the role of the authority in preparing the necessary studies in this aspect.
In the meeting, the Sufi Governor and Deputy Governor Muhammad Al-Qadi stressed the need for concerted efforts and work with recommendations and proposals to reduce the damage of floods and activate the community in implementing community initiatives in this aspect.
They touched on the role of the Republican Hospital Authority in receiving the injured and providing them with health care. Stressing the role of the media in raising awareness of the dangers of floods and being cautious during heavy rains.
They stressed the need to equip and activate all the equipment of the executive offices and harness them in these circumstances, stop issuing building permits in dangerous areas prone to floods, and monitor any construction work, violation.
