NEW YORK August 31. 2024 (Saba) - China has called on the United States to prioritize genuine efforts in advancing peace talks and addressing the Ukrainian crisis rather than spreading misinformation.
The appeal underscores Beijing's commitment to peace and its advocacy for collaborative efforts to achieve this objective.
During a briefing before the UN Security Council on arms supplies to Ukraine, Geng Shuang, China's deputy permanent representative to the United Nations, criticized the US for failing to actively promote peace and for its negative rhetoric.
Geng emphasized that the primary international focus should be on achieving a ceasefire and ending the conflict.
He accused the US of ignoring China's peace efforts and instead continuing to disseminate falsehoods and undermine China's position in the Security Council.
Geng warned that increasing the flow of weapons and ammunition will only escalate the crisis and complicate the path to peace.
He urged adherence to key principles: avoiding battlefield expansion, preventing further escalation, and refraining from provoking any parties involved.
China called on the international community to foster conditions conducive to peace and to provide practical support to this end.
