SANA'A August 31. 2024 (Saba) - The National Center for Meteorology and Early Warning has forecasted ongoing thunderstorms of varying intensity across multiple governorates over the next 24 hours.
According to the latest weather bulletin, thunderstorms and strong descending winds are expected to impact Aden, Lahj, and Abyan. Rainfall, which may be heavy at times, will also affect the Tihama Plain and the western coasts of Taiz, Hodeida, and Hajjah.
In the highlands of Taiz, Dhale', Ibb, Dhamar, Raymah, Hajjah, Mahweet, Sa'ada, Shabwa, and Hadramaut, rain accompanied by thunderstorms is anticipated. Scattered showers are also likely in parts of Sana'a, Amran, Marib, Jawf,Bayda, and Mahrah.
Recent rainfall measurements from meteorological stations include:
- Mahweet: 14.4 mm
- Hajjah: 7.2 mm
- Taiz: 0.2 mm
Thunderstorms of varying intensity have also occurred in areas outside the coverage of meteorological stations, including mountainous highlands, interior plateaus, Tihama plain, and western coasts.
The center has issued warnings against venturing into valleys, flood paths, or crossing ground bridges due to the risks of thunderstorms, strong winds, and hail. It also cautioned about reduced visibility from rain and fog, potential rock collapses on roads and mountain slopes, and the risk of structural damage to mud and traditional buildings.
Authorities are advised to implement necessary protective measures and stay updated with the latest bulletins and reports from the meteorological center.
