JENIN August 30. 2024 (Saba) - The Secretary General of the Palestinian National Initiative Movement, Mustafa Barghouti, said on Friday that the decision of the Zionist Cabinet to stay in the Philadelphia axis, south Gaza Strip, means "rejecting the ceasefire."
Barghouti said in a statement: "The Cabinet's decision to remain in the Philadelphia axis means the rejection of reaching a ceasefire agreement and withdrawal from Gaza Strip."
Earlier on Friday, the Zionist Broadcasting Corporation said: "In its session last night (Thursday evening), the Knesset approved the map that determines the occupation army's stay along the Philadelphia axis, as part of a possible exchange deal" with Hamas.
Barghouti noted that this decision "confirms the true intentions of Netanyahu and his fascist government to maintain the full occupation on Gaza Strip and continue the genocidal war, which was also confirmed by the appointment of Elad Goren as military governor of Gaza Strip."
He said: "Events will prove that the rulers of "Israel" have made the most serious strategic mistake in their lives, as Gaza will never be subject to permanent occupation."
The Zionist Authority said: Ministers who participated in the session "emphasized that this helps in reaching a deal, because it makes it clear to Hamas that it has to make concessions on the axis."
The authority quoted Netanyahu as saying to the ministers in the session: "The disaster of October 7, 2023, was the result of the Philadelphia Road not falling under the control of "Israel".
On the other hand, the Commission indicated that "the negotiating team believes that insisting on the continued presence on the Egyptian border may prevent reaching an agreement with Hamas."
For months, Qatar and Egypt have been mediating indirect negotiations between the Zionist entity and Hamas, while the United States supports these efforts through contacts and meetings with Zionist, Egyptian and Qatari officials.
Israel insists on continuing its military control over Philadelphia and Netzarim, while Hamas insists on the complete withdrawal of the occupation army from Gaza Strip, as part of any agreement to stop the war and exchange prisoners.
