MAHWIT August 30. 2024 (Saba) - The Transport and Public Works Minister - the representative of the Higher Committee for Emergency and Flood Damage, Mohammed Qahim, inspected on Friday the damage caused by floods and rock collapses in Malhan district in Al-Mahwit Province.
Minister Qahim, along with the local secretary general of the province, Ali Al-Zaykem, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Yemen News Agency Saba, Nasreddin Amer, heads of the General Corporation for Roads and Bridges, Engineer Abdulrahman Al-Hadhrami, Road Maintenance Fund, Engineer Nabil Al-Heifi, Civil Defense Department, Major General Ibrahim Al-Muayyed, Deputy Minister of Administration, Local and Rural Development Ammar Al-Harib, Director of the Central Intervention Unit, Engineer Shihab Al-Shami and Mobilization Officer in the province, Ismail Sharaf Al-Din, reviewed efforts to provide housing and relief assistance to the affected people.
During the inspection, the Transportation and Public Works Minister explained that the field trip to Malhan district comes in line with the directives of the political leadership to closely inspect the damage caused to its citizens.
The Secretary General of the Province Local, Dr. Al-Zaykam, praised the efforts of the Supreme Emergency Committee, which reached the mountain tops and difficult places to see the conditions of the affected citizens closely, feel their suffering, support them and provide them with the necessary assistance.
The head of the Yemeni news agency Saba reported that efforts are continuing to reach several areas affected by floods resulting from heavy rains in Malhan district.
"Today, we reached several areas in Malhan district, and the damage occurred in more than one part of the district, and 12 equipment is currently working to open roads, and there is intervention by the Civil Defense Department and the competent authorities from the Intervention Unit, the Road Fund, the Zakat Commission and the branch of the Humanitarian Affairs Council to provide aid to the affected people," he said.
"The food baskets will arrive today, as efforts continue to open roads and restore the situation to what it was," Amer said, stressing that humanitarian interventions in the relief of those affected are entirely limited to the government side.
He pointed out that there is a small intervention by foreign organizations, but this intervention is not comparable to the government's intervention and the community role that contributes mainly.
For his part, the head of the Civil Defense Department, Major General Al-Muayyad, explained that the committee reviewed the damage to citizens' houses, roads, and fears of falling rocks.
"Today, we stand helpless in front of the great efforts to thank the people of the community, who cooperated with their brothers who were affected in several areas of Malhan district," said Deputy Minister of Administration, Local and Rural Development and Harib.
The director of the Ministry of Finance's Central Emergency Development Interventions Unit, Engineer Al-Shami, confirmed that the unit has been working since the first day in the affected areas to reopen roads to facilitate the relief of those affected and provide them with aid and services.
