MOSCOW August 12. 2024 (Saba) - Scientists from the Russian Far Eastern Federal University, the Motorika cybermedicine company and the Skoltech Center have developed a unique domestic technology that increases the sensitivity of prosthetic limbs.

The technology allows the new hand to move more freely, the threshold of phantom pain is lowered, and the interaction with movements and brain signals becomes more balanced, Russian media reported on Monday.

Artur Bektemirov, a neurosurgeon at the university's medical complex, was quoted as saying: "We implanted an electrode into the peripheral nerve , spinal cord and conducted a series of studies to develop a prosthesis that would ideally match the individual parameters of the patient."

Researchers and surgeons from the Far Eastern University and the Skoltech Center were able to reduce it by 70-80 percent using electrical stimulation, and the use of the prosthesis they developed completely relieved the patient of phantom pain.

It is a two-way system controlled via an electroencephalographic interface, and it also provides sensory feedback in the form of electrical stimulation.
