DHAMAR August 04. 2024 (Saba) - A four-day training course on the safe handling and use of pesticides and integrated pest management began on Sunday in Dhamar province.
The course, organized by the Agriculture and Irrigation Office with funding from the Executive Unit for the Management of Agricultural Projects and Initiatives Financing, aims to educate 19 farmers from the Mayfa'a Ans district.
At the opening, province undersecretary for the Development Sector Ali Atef emphasized the course's importance in educating farmers about the risks associated with the improper use of pesticides.
Atef highlighted the high cancer rates in some directorates of the governorate and stressed the need to address the causes of these health issues.
Dr. Adel Omar, Director of the Agriculture and Irrigation Office and the Executive Unit in the province underscored the course's role in raising awareness about the dangers of improper pesticide use.
Omar encouraged participants to apply and share the knowledge gained to improve pesticide use practices and avoid dangerous substances.
Deputy Director of the Agriculture Office, Engineer Hafedh al-Junaid and Director of the Prevention Department, Engineer Atiq al-Abart outlined the course content.
Participants will learn about different types of pesticides, safe application methods, first aid for pesticide poisoning, and how to protect honey bees from pesticide-related harm.
The course will also cover legal regulations on pesticides, seeds, fertilizers, and the role of fertilization in plant growth.
