PYONGYANG April 29. 2024 (Saba) - North Korea has criticized the US supply of ATACMS missiles to Ukraine, warning of the negative consequences of the decision for Washington itself.
The head of North Korea's Defense Ministry's Foreign Military Affairs Department said in a statement on Sunday that the choice was reckless and would lead to "negative consequences."
The statement added that the US administration, which was stressing that it did not encourage Ukrainian strikes on Russian territory, began supplying long-range missiles to Ukraine, which makes the United States incite escalation.
He pointed out that the United States, which after the outbreak of the conflict in Ukraine gradually expanded its military assistance to Ukraine, including depleted uranium missiles, cluster bombs and tanks, this time provided its followers with long-range missiles capable of reaching Russian territory.
"The fact that the United States secretly transported long-range missiles to Ukraine is of concern to the international community," he said. In any case, these missiles will not change the situation in the battles and will provoke the hysteria of reckless confrontation in the Zelensky government."
The New York Times, citing its sources, reported that the Pentagon admitted that it had recently authorized the use of ATACMS missiles supplied to Ukraine to carry out strikes on Crimea in order to "tighten pressure" on the peninsula.
For his part, a Pentagon spokesman said in an interview with the agency "Novosti" that the United States considers Crimea, the republics of Donetsk and Lugansk and the provinces of Kherson and Zaporozhye "Ukrainian territory" Ukrainian forces have the right to use ATACMS missiles to retrieve them.
