NAIROBI April 18, 2024 (Saba) - Kenyan President William Ruto announced today that army chief General Francis Omondi Ogula and nine senior officers were killed in a military helicopter crash in the west of the country.

Kenyan President William Ruto said: "Today at 14:20, our nation suffered a tragic aviation accident. It is with great sadness that I announce the death of General Francis Omondi Ogula."

"The incident also killed nine other officers and two of those on board the helicopter survived," he said.

Kenya's The Standard newspaper reported earlier, citing authorities, that "a helicopter of the Kenya Defence Forces crashed and caught fire in the Elgio Marquette area in the west of the country."
