NEW York November 01. 2023 (Saba) - The UN High Commissionaire for Refugees, Filippo Grandi, late on Tuesday called on the Security Council to unite and support ceasefire in order to end death spin in the Palestinian occupied territory.
A humanitarian ceasefire could at least end this death spin, Grandi told the UNSC at his briefing, hoping that the member states may cope with division, as a UNSC decision "will stigmatize everyone for many generations."
The Palestinians do not want to leave Gaza, and want access to assistances. "This should be the priority," he told reporters, as the UN dubs the humanitarian situation in the Strip as increasingly disastrous.
Few days ago, the UN General Assembly adopted a decision presented by the Arab Block and other countries calling for an urgent, sustainable truce leading to an end to violence and the provision of goods and services for civilians across Gaza, a decision the UNSC repeatedly failed to make.
