SANAA, Aug. 10 (Saba) Minister of Water and Environment Nabil Al-Wazir on Monday stressed the important role of donors in supporting efforts to repair the damage caused by the flow of torrents due to heavy rains.

During an expanded meeting he chaired through video technology, which included UNICEF Deputy Resident Representative Bastian Vengo, and Head of WASH Department in the organization Menek Bortrik, al-Wazir said that the Ministry is looking forward to coordinating efforts with the organization to implement urgent interventions regarding the damage to the water and sewage networks and maintenance equipment due to the torrents.

The Minister of Water directed the specialists to expedite the preparation of final reports on the extent of damages in all provinces, so that the Ministry could search for the funds required to start implementing the interventions in an urgent manner.

In the meeting, al-Wazir urged heads of the water bodies and institutions to assume their responsibilities to assess the damage and accelerate the technical treatments.

Meanwhile, the meeting has briefed on the reports from the Ministry's Emergency Operations Room relating to the field activities of the cholera epidemic and the efforts carried out during the period from July 1-31.

As the Reports indicated that the general perspective of the epidemiological situation at the level of Republic during the month of June saw a rise of the number deaths nationwide.

According to the reports, Taiz and Hajjah counties ranked first in terms of the rise in cholera cases during July, followed Hodeidah, Amran, Sana'a, Marib, Ibb, Dhamar, Al-Bayda and Saa'da.

The meeting reviewed the field efforts which implemented by the General Authority for Rural Water Projects and the General Authority for Water Resources and difficulties that faces as a result of the funding required to complete interventions related to water quality control and cholera reduction.

The ministry's technical team provided  detailed report on damage to water, sanitation and maintenance equipment from the floods that's through light of the field survey in the past days.

In his part, UNICEF's Deputy Resident Representative Bastian confirmed  the organization's keenness to expand partnership with the Ministry of Water and Environment and provide the required funding for activities submitted by the ministry.
