Oil Minister discusses with UN official cooperation to release oil ships
Oil Minister discusses with UN official cooperation to release oil ships
[10/August/2020]

SANAA, Aug. 10 (Saba) - Minister of Oil and Minerals Ahmed Abdullah Dares met has met with UN Humanitarian Coordinator for Yemen Lise Grande.

The meeting, held on Sunday,  discussed aspects of cooperation and the possibility of intervention to release the oil ships detained by the Aggression coalition and allow them to enter the port of Hodeidah, especially since many vital and service sectors in the country are threatened to suspend, especially the health sector.

It referred to the suffering of the Yemeni people as a result of the continued detention of ships by the Aggression States in the light of the global Coronavirus pandemic.

The meeting stressed the importance of the humanitarian role that the United Nations must play in releasing detained vessels to meet the needs of the service sectors of oil derivatives and to ensure the continuity of the activity of service facilities in providing their services to citizens.

The Minister of Oil stressed the importance of strengthening the humanitarian aspects and neutralizing oil derivatives and working to speed up the release of detained ships in order to avoid a humanitarian disaster due to the suspension of many service sectors, especially health

The Minister Dares pointed out that the arrival of one or two oil derivatives ships to the port of Hodeidah does not represent a solution to the problem because of the growing need, where the daily consumption of oil derivatives amounts to more than 10 million liters per day, not to mention the material costs and losses resulting from the detention of oil ships, which are a burden borne by the citizen.

He called on the international official to continue to make more efforts to release all oil vessels to cover the growing need for these substances, which are the main engines of life.

For her part, Grande affirmed her readiness to communicate and coordinate the release of oil ships to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people, take into account the humanitarian aspect, and prevent the suspension of service sectors, especially the health sector in light of the current situation.
