COLOMBO April 24. 2024 (Saba) - Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi arrived in Sri Lanka today, Wednesday, at the invitation of his counterpart, Ranil Wickremesinghe, and to attend the opening ceremony of the Uma-Oya Dam project.
Sayyed Raisi will participate with the President of Sri Lanka in the opening ceremony and official start-up of the “Uma-Oya Multi-Purpose Project” including two dams and a 120 MW power plant built by Iranian contractors during this one-day visit.
All the consultation, design and construction phases of this multi-purpose project were carried out by Iranian engineers. It is one of the largest construction projects in Sri Lanka with a cost of approximately $500 million and more than 400 Iranian engineers played a role in its construction.
