SANAA, Jan. 15 (Saba) - The Pentagon announced on Tuesday that the deployment of US troops on the border with Mexico would be extended until September in order to support border guards in the face of the influx of migrants.
More than 4,500 troops are currently deployed along the US-Mexico border.
US President Donald Trump announced the deployment of the troops before the legislative elections on November 6 in anticipation of the arrival of thousands of immigrants from Central America to the United States.
The deployment was due to end in mid-December but the Department of Homeland Security initially asked the Pentagon to extend the deployment until January 31 because of the continuing threat on the border.
