[17/April/2024]

SANA'A April 17. 2024 (Saba) - A meeting chaired by the Minister of Transport in the caretaker government, Abdul Wahab Al-Durra, discussed on Tuesday aspects of coordination and cooperation between the Civil Aviation and Meteorological Authority and the General Corporation for Roads and Bridges, to rehabilitate airports that were destroyed by the US-Saudi aggression, foremost of which is Sana'a airport.

At the meeting, the Minister of Transport considered Sana'a International Airport the most important airport in Yemen that provides navigational and humanitarian services to passengers, especially patients, but it is still under siege imposed by the aggression coalition.

He pointed out that the six weekly civilian flights to and from Sanaa and Queen Alia airports of Jordan did not contribute to alleviating the suffering of the Yemeni people due to the congestion and high demand for travel through Sana'a airport, which is safer and closer to two-thirds of the population of the Republic of Yemen.

He pointed out that the projects that will be implemented at Sanaa airport by the General Corporation for Roads and Bridges lie in the rehabilitation of what was destroyed by the aggression coalition, in accordance with the international requirements and standards of the Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), which contributes to the provision of distinguished navigational services.

Minister Al-Durra reiterated that the United Nations and its affiliated organizations have not implemented their commitment to rehabilitate airports and ports that were destroyed and bombed by the aggression, and have not succeeded in pressuring the US-Saudi aggression coalition to open new destinations through Sana'a International Airport.

"We will work to rehabilitate airports with Yemeni cadres with experience in the field of civil aviation and self-financing from the Civil Aviation and Meteorology Authority," he said.

He stressed that the Civil Aviation Authority and the Roads and Bridges Corporation have highly experienced technical and professional engineering cadres in the field of construction and infrastructure, which qualifies them to implement projects with high quality and international specifications.

He urged the need to work as one team to complete projects at Sana'a airport and other airports that have been systematically destroyed and bombed by the coalition of aggression for nine years.

The Minister of Transport explained that despite the continuation of the air blockade on Sana'a International Airport, it enjoys technical and professional operational readiness to receive all civilian flights and provide its navigational services in accordance with the standards in force at international airports.

The Chairman of the General Corporation for Roads and Bridges, Eng. Abdul Rahman Al-Hadrami, expressed the readiness of the Corporation to harness all equipment, mechanisms and technical and engineering expertise to implement the important projects needed by Sana'a International Airport.

He stressed that with the cooperation of all, fruitful results will be achieved for the success of the projects and their completion as required at the airport.

The meeting was attended by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport for the Air Transport Sector Abdullah Al-Ansi, the Undersecretary of the Civil Aviation Authority Raed Jabal, and a number of specialized engineers from the Aviation Authority and the Roads Corporation.
