SANAA, June 26 (Saba) - Yemen on Wednesday celebrated with countries of the world the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, which falls on June 26 each year.

On this occasion, the Specialized Penal Prosecution in the capital Sanaa, the Penal Prosecution in Hodeidah province, and the Drug Control Department of the Interior Ministry destroyed 11 tons and 415 kilograms of cannabis and 14 thousand Captagon pills have been seized since the beginning of 2019.

"The destruction of this quantity comes as part of Yemen's celebration of the International Day Against Drug and reflects Yemen's role in the fight against drugs," said Brigadier Majid al-Qayfi, director of the drug control department.

Al-Qayfi noted that Saudi-led aggression coalition countries had tried to flood Yemeni provinces with drugs to destabilize security and weaken the internal front, but the security services had a lookout and foiled their schemes.

He explained that the drug smuggling is taking place across the seas and ports controlled by the aggression coalition and therefore they are responsible for bringing these quantities into Yemen.

During the destruction process, Interior Minister Major General Abdulkarim al-Houthi hailed the efforts made by the security services, the ministry personnel and the competent bodies to fight drug trafficking and arrest most of trafficking gangs in Yemen.
