SANAA, April 22 (Saba) - The Board of Directors of the General Company for the Production of Potato Seeds on Monday held its meeting today under the chairmanship of Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation and Chairman of the Board of company's Directors Eng. Majid al-Mutawakel, the general plan of the company and its budget project for the year 2019.
The meeting reviewed the financial issues of the company and approved the treatment of outstanding financial issues.
The meeting focused on the objectives of the strategic plan for the development of the company for the next phase, notably raising the production capacity to five thousand tons of potato seeds, activating and developing the mechanisms of institutional work according to the specifications of modern management and improving the marketing capabilities and competitiveness of the company.
The objectives of the plan included developing the research aspect, raising the level of quality, strengthening monitoring and evaluation mechanisms, information systems, and attention to training, rehabilitation and capacity building, as well as reducing production costs and the percentage of losses of crops.
At the meeting, the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation stressed the importance of benefiting from the research experiences owned by Yemeni institutions, bodies and universities in the agricultural field, thus enhancing the company's role and tasks in providing and producing potato seeds to cover the needs of farmers in different provinces.
He commended the level of implementation of the activities, especially in the field of propagation and production of high quality potato seeds for distribution to farmers and covering their seed needs as a result of the growing potato cultivation and demand as an important cash crop contributing to food security and raising the income of agricultural households.
Al-Mutawakel stressed the keenness of the leadership of the ministry to overcome the difficulties facing the company's activities so that it can perform its role and tasks to serve food security and alleviate the suffering of farmers as a result of the situation experienced by the country due to the US-saudi coalition's aggression and siege.
It is worth mentioning that the activities of General Company for the production of potato seeds is concentrated in the production of potato seeds with high quality specifications free from diseases and pests of agriculture, and adheres to the technical standards and specifications adopted globally for the production of potato seeds.
