Afghanistan considers postponing presidential elections scheduled for April
[27/ November/2018]
SANAA, Nov.27 (Saba) - Afghan authorities are considering postponing the presidential election on April 20 after violent criticism of the weak organization of parliamentary elections held last month.

A spokeswoman for the Independent Electoral Commission in Afghanistan said on Monday that the idea of postponing presidential elections and parliamentary elections in the central province of Ghazni and local council elections was being discussed for three months.

"But we can not say that it will be postponed because the discussions are in their early stages," the spokesman added.

Last month's parliamentary elections, with polling delays across the country, were heavily criticized for problems ranging from incomplete voter lists to voter check-ups.

But any postponement of the presidential election would be offset by strong opposition from several political groups, suspected of having President Ashraf Ghani make arrangements for his reelection.
