ANAA, Oct. 1 (Saba) - Minister of Water and Environment Nabil Abdullah Al-Wazeer and Governor of Hajah Hilal Al-Sufi signed on Sunday a decision to form a Water Basin Committee in Hajjah province.
According to the decree, the committee headed by the governor of the province will charged to set up policies and plans related to the organization, management, development and conservation of water resources and the organization of their exploitation, as well as work to protect water resources from depletion and pollution and prevent random excavation.
The committee also will approves the plans, programs and projects for the concerned parties with regard to water resources, irrigation, wastewater output, water basin management, follow up on their implementation and work to enhance cooperation and coordination between the local councils, the committee of the basin and the Public Authority for Water Resources.
The tasks of the water basin committee in the province include the reviewing of periodic reports of each side on the level of optimum use of water resources and the procedures to be taken in the sub-basins, which is subject to the process of attrition and pollution, as well as those reports and procedures submitted by the branch of the General Authority for Water Resources to resolve water disputes.
The Water Basin Committee also approves the licenses for drilling wells according to the technical and legal reports submitted by the General Authority for Water Resources, in addition to reviewing the work of the relevant executive offices and their commitment to plans and measures taken to reduce the unfair depletion of the basin and protect it from pollution.
The tasks of the basin committee included reviewing the commitment of the local councils in the districts to implement the directives issued by the basin committee, as well as the extent of the obligation to control the violations and implement the water law and related resolutions and regulations, as well as supporting the branch of the General Authority for Water Resources in the field of control.
