Deputy PM, UN Humanitarian Coordinator discuss IDPs situation in Hodeidah

SANAA, July 2 (Saba) - Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Dr. Hussein Maqboli discussed on Monday with the UN Humanitarian Coordinator for Yemen, Lise Grande, the situation of internally displaced persons (IDPs) from Hodeidah province and ways of providing humanitarian support to them.

The meeting, which was attended by Hodeidah Governor, dealt with providing the necessary requirements for the province inhabitants and securing the civilian areas to reduce displacement to other areas.

In the meeting, the UN official was briefed on the number of displaced families, which exceeded 23,000 families, in the capital Sanaa, Hajjah, Ibb, Mahweet and Dhamar provinces, and many rural areas in districts of Hodeidah.

Maqboli pointed out that the aggression coalition intimidate and threaten civilians and distribute leaflets to them to evacuate their villages and towns, as forced displacement, which is a crime in the international humanitarian law.

He called on the United Nations to intervene and press for securing the residential areas and to provide support to ensure the provision of the basic services for sheltering the displaced.

For her part, the UN humanitarian coordinator said that there are efforts exerted to mitigate the suffering of Hodeidah IDPs.

Food baskets would be distributed, in the next few days, to 70,000 families in the province, she added,.

She confirmed that the humanitarian work in Hodeidah needs a lot of support to distribute food to all residents.

Moreover, Maqboli and Grande visited the IDPs sheltering center at Baghdad School in the capital, which accommodates 30 displaced families from Hodeidah, and got acquainted with the conditions and needs of those families.
