KUWAIT, June 11 (Saba) – A direct joint session was held on Friday at Bayan Palace in Kuwait city and brought together heads of the national delegation and Riyadh’s delegation in the presence of the UN envoy to Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh.

It is the first direct joint session since Riyadh’s delegation announced its withdrawal from the sessions.

At the meeting, the national delegation stressed the need to address the prisoners file and to take quick steps in this aspect. The delegation reviewed the proposals that have been submitted previously, both those related to the release of a thousand prisoners as a first stage, or at the level of the province, proposing Taiz as a first leg, or according to specific ratios.

An official in the national delegation confirmed that the obstruction of Riyadh’s delegation was clear in the file of prisoners.

“It is unreasonable that the national delegation presents lists of more than four thousand prisoners from the army and the popular committees, and get information only on 137 prisoners,” the official said.

He affirmed the national delegation’s readiness to release this number of prisoners as a first batch instantly, but he said the issue is related to the delegation of Riyadh and the United Nations.

According to the official, the meeting discussed the humanitarian situation being suffered by Yemenis at Bishah Airport of Saudi Arabia, as well as the continuation of ceasefire violations.

It was emphasized at the meeting on the need to agree on a consensual authority from all parties enjoys the confidence of all components with conducting military and security arrangements for all provinces of the country and identifying issues of dispute and agreement in a timetable.

During the meeting, the national delegation stressed the need to take swift measures to address the economic and humanitarian situation, which it said constitutes obstacles for the consultations table.
