EU: Working to impose new sanctions on Russia
[11/ August/2025]
Brussels – Saba:

European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaya Kallas said on Monday, following a video conference with European foreign ministers, that the EU is working to impose new sanctions on Russia.

After discussing the upcoming meeting between US and Russian Presidents Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, Kallas added: "We are working to impose additional sanctions on Russia, increase military support for Ukraine, and support its accession process to the European Union," according to the Russia Today website.

She noted that EU countries "expressed their support for US steps that will lead to a just peace."

It is noteworthy that many European leaders have supported Trump's efforts to achieve peace in Ukraine.

According to a joint European statement, European leaders are prepared to provide diplomatic support to the US president, but they are also prepared to provide significant military and financial support to Kyiv as part of the so-called "coalition of the willing," and to impose sanctions on Russia.

The Alaska summit between Trump and Putin is scheduled for August 15, and the White House is seriously considering Zelensky's invitation, with senior US officials describing it as "under consideration" and "entirely possible."
