Hamas Official: Netanyahu, Wietkov Sabotaged Negotiations Just Steps from Final Agreement
[07/ August/2025]

Gaza – SABA:

Senior Hamas official Taher Al-Nounou confirmed on Thursday evening that the most recent round of negotiations with the Israeli occupation, held late last month, nearly reached a final agreement to end the aggression on Gaza.

In a press statement, Al-Nounou said the talks stalled due to a decision by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu—wanted by the International Criminal Court for war crimes—and with backing from U.S. Middle East envoy Steven Wietkov, following the withdrawal of both American and Israeli delegations.

He stated that Hamas had demonstrated high responsibility and flexibility with all proposed initiatives, but Netanyahu is misleading the Israeli public.

“Netanyahu claims that freeing captives is his top priority,” Al-Nounou said, “yet his actual actions—pushing for the occupation of Gaza, rejecting a return to the negotiating table, and placing obstacles in the way—completely contradict that.”

Al-Nounou stressed that Hamas is ready to reengage in negotiations immediately, provided sufficient humanitarian aid and food supplies are allowed into the Gaza Strip to end Israel’s policy of starvation.

He noted that Hamas leadership maintains daily contact with mediators in Qatar and Egypt to ensure the adequate and dignified delivery of aid to Gaza, adding that both countries are exerting positive efforts to maximize the flow of humanitarian assistance.

Al-Nounou further stated that Hamas is working on multiple regional and international fronts to secure aid and bring a full end to the policies of starvation and genocide against the Palestinian people, leveraging its longstanding relationships with Arab and Islamic nations, particularly Qatar and Egypt.
