[04/ August/2025]

Berlin - Saba:

An opinion poll revealed that the majority of Germans are dissatisfied with the performance of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in her position, following the announcement.

The poll, conducted by INSA for the German newspaper Bild on Saturday, surveyed 1,002 Germans. Fifty-one percent expressed dissatisfaction with von der Leyen's performance, compared to 31% who approved, and 18% who were undecided.

The poll showed that 66% of Germans surveyed expect the tariff agreement to have a negative impact on the German economy, while 14% said it would benefit the national economy.

A tenth of respondents said they do not expect it to have any impact on the economy.

On July 27, von der Leyen and US President Donald Trump reached a trade agreement subjecting most EU exports to the United States to a 15% tariff. The agreement does not include the removal of the 50% US tariffs on steel and aluminum, but they could be reduced as a result of further negotiations, according to the New York Times, citing a senior US official. The European Union has also pledged to purchase $750 billion worth of American energy products.
