Washington – Saba:
Former U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he has ordered the deployment of two nuclear submarines to "relevant areas" as a deterrent against Russia, in response to what he described as "provocative statements" by Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council.
In a post on his Truth Social platform on Friday, Trump wrote: "Due to the highly provocative statements by former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, who currently serves as Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council, I have ordered two nuclear submarines to be sent to appropriate areas in case there are any intentions behind these inflammatory remarks."
Trump did not specify which statements he was referring to.
He added: "Words matter greatly and can often lead to unintended consequences—I hope this is not one of those cases."
According to Russia Today, the Pentagon has not yet clarified the submarines' intended deployment locations.
On July 28, Medvedev posted on X (formerly Twitter), warning that Trump’s threats against Russia and his remarks about shortening the timeline for a Ukrainian settlement should not ignore the fact that "any final ultimatum is a step toward war."
