The Russian Ministry of Defense announced on Thursday that units of the Russian "South" Group liberated the city of Chasov Yar in Donetsk People's Republic.
Sputnik quoted the ministry as saying in a statement: "As a result of offensive actions carried out by units of the Russian "South" Group forces in the direction of Kramatorsk - Druzhkovka, the city of Chasov Yar in Donetsk People's Republic was liberated."
The city of Chasov Yar is located in Donetsk People's Republic and holds great strategic importance. Its high altitude position opens the way to the largest population centers in Donetsk People's Republic, represented by the cities of Slavyansk and Kramatorsk, as well as Konstantinovka.
