Tehran - Saba:
Iran's Ministry of Intelligence said it had foiled a plot by "royalist opponents" with the support of Israel's Mossad to organize mass riots in the capital, Tehran, following the Israeli raid on Evin Prison last June.
The ministry's statement on Monday regarding the "silent battle" with the Western intelligence alliance during the 12-day imposed war against Iran read: "Measures were taken to uncover and thwart the plan of the Mossad-affiliated royalists... to send armed task forces from across the country to Tehran on June 22 to carry out terrorist attacks the following day... including against military and law enforcement centers near the prison."
The statement added that "as a result of the operation, more than 120 mercenaries were arrested in 23 regions across the country."
Last June, Iranian media reported that the Israeli entity had launched attacks on some areas of Tehran, including the northern part of the capital.
The Iranian Tasnim News Agency later reported that part of the prison's administrative building was destroyed, and that a number of prison staff, prisoners, and visitors sustained various injuries.
A few days later, Iranian Judiciary Spokesman Asghar Jahangir announced that 71 people had been killed in the Israeli attack on Evin Prison.
