Four people, including a police officer, were killed and others injured on Monday evening in a shooting inside a skyscraper in Midtown Manhattan, New York, before the attacker shot himself, according to city authorities.
Agence France-Presse reported that the targeted building is located on Park Avenue in the Midtown area and houses offices of major financial institutions, including Blackstone, KPMG, and the headquarters of Major League Soccer management.
According to city police, one civilian was critically injured, while five others were taken to the hospital with minor injuries sustained while trying to escape the scene.
For his part, New York Mayor Eric Adams said in a press conference: “This type of tragedy never gets easier… We received a notification from the police commissioner about a shooting and casualties, and we are still trying to determine the full details of what happened.”
