The exceptional efforts made by the local authorities in Taiz governorate culminated in service and development successes and qualitative transformations during the year 1446 AH.
The local authorities in the governorate were keen to implement the directives of Leader of the Revolution Sayyed Abdulmalik Badr al-Din al-Houthi, the Supreme Political Council, and the Program of the Government of Change and Construction, which included alleviating the suffering of citizens and meeting their needs through service and development projects.
These projects were implemented during the past year at a cost of more than five billion riyals, covering various sectors.
A report issued by the local authorities in Taiz indicated that the implemented projects included 200 service projects in the field of community initiatives, costing more than one billion riyals.
Based on the directives of the revolutionary leadership and the Supreme Political Council, the new Taiz governorate has continued to benefit from development and service projects in various fields, enhancing the provision of services to the governorate's residents through the combined efforts of the governorate's leadership, executive offices, and community organizations.
According to the report, the implemented service projects have contributed to a qualitative shift towards driving comprehensive and sustainable development under the direct supervision of acting governor Ahmed al-Masawa and his tireless efforts, which have resulted in achieving the public interest of the governorate's residents.
Higher Education Sector
Among the projects implemented in the higher education sector is the construction of the College of Medical Sciences building in al-Hawban area, at a cost of 407 million riyals, funded by the local authority. This strategic academic project will create a qualitative shift in the progress of university education in various scientific disciplines.
Health Sector
In the health sector, the local authority in the governorate has completed the final stages of the Taiz General Hospital project in al-Janad, at a cost of 600 million riyals, funded by the local authority. This project represents a qualitative addition to the governorate's health sector, providing medical and treatment services to citizens in various specialties with ease and flexibility, alleviating the burden on society.
Water and Sanitation Sector
Within the water and sanitation sector, Taiz governorate has witnessed a qualitative leap with the implementation of a number of water and sanitation projects, including the supply and installation of a solar energy system to operate four wells in Demnat Khadir district and Hajdah area in Shamir district, the operation of the Petra Well, and the first phase of wells in Shaab al-Rayhan.
Among the water and sanitation sector projects, a project was implemented to connect the IDP camps in al-Tazeyah to the public network, a project to purify 12 wells belonging to the Local Water and Sanitation Corporation, and two projects to extend water lines and a sewage line in al-Maqahfah area.
Projects implemented in the water and sanitation sector in Taiz province also included extending a sewage line in the Lower al-Shorfa area (phase one), rehabilitating the treatment plant in al-Buraihi area, extending the sewage network in the al-Mandhud, al-Ranj Factory, Wadi Ahmed, and Technical Institute neighborhoods east of the city of Taiz, and supplying and installing a solar-powered pumping system for al-Raheda junction well.
According to the local authority report for the year 1446 AH, these projects included supplying and installing a solar-powered pumping system for al-Shorfa well, extending the main sewage pipeline from the Roads Authority neighborhood to al-Juhim station (phase one), rehabilitating and operating Habeer-al-Haymah wells, and maintaining the main pipeline and the secondary pipelines carrying water to the control tank with inspection chambers. This was in addition to a project to supply and install a solar-powered pumping system.
These projects also included the operation of Habeer Well No. 6, the extension of 1,900-meter-long water distribution lines in Juma'an Sala neighborhood, the construction of a water collection and distribution tank in al-Hawban, the extension of pumping and drainage lines, and the supply and delivery of submersible pumps, motors, generators, and electrical transformers of various capacities.
Roads Sector
Within the framework of implementing road projects, which have topped the local authority's agenda, given that roads are the artery of comprehensive development, the governorate has witnessed a qualitative shift in this sector with the implementation of projects to pave new roads, asphalt and paving works, and the rehabilitation of several roads linking the districts to the governorate center.
According to the local authority's report, the road projects implemented within the framework of the 1446 AH plan included the addition of an asphalt layer to Sharab al-Salam district Road at a cost of 116 million riyals, funded by the local authority, and the construction of six roads in the fourth sector, at a cost of 267 million riyals, funded by the local authority.
Road projects funded by the local authority included the construction of al-Khamsin Street, Sector 3 Network, at a cost of 266 million riyals; the construction of the main arterial roads, Sector 7, at a cost of 500 million riyals; the paving of Suwayda Market Street; the maintenance of Maweyah-Dhale'-Maweyah line, Phase 1, at a cost of 100 million riyals; the construction and paving of September 21st Street, al-Qarf-al-Arakam, at a cost of 662 million riyals; and the paving of al-Musaimeer Street, at a cost of 55 million riyals.
Road projects included the rehabilitation of Bani Awn-al-Mikhlaf-Sharab al-Salam road, at a cost of 142 million riyals, funded by the local authority; the rehabilitation and paving of Maweyah-Suwayda line road, Phase 2, at a cost of 20 million riyals; the construction of al-Barh-al-Khadha-Maqbanah road, at a cost of 142 million and 500 thousand riyals; and the rehabilitation and paving of the Al-Joush-Mawiah pass, at a cost of 16 million riyals, funded by the local authority.
Projects implemented in the roads sector also included paving al-Dhahrain al-Salu isolation road at a cost of 19 million riyals, funded by the local authority; constructing the 50th Street in Sector 3 at a cost of 286 million riyals, funded by the local authority; constructing the Wadi Nakhal Bridge with a contribution of 115 million riyals from the local authority; and expanding Al-Laseeb Road at a cost of approximately 12 million riyals, funded by the local authority.
According to the report, the road projects included linking the Upper Haymah and Lower Haymah lines; rehabilitating culverts and stormwater drainage systems; protecting citizens' property and lives; rehabilitating the 60th line, which extends from the entrance to Al-Dhakra to Sharab Junction, a length of 26 kilometers, at a cost of 800 million riyals, the first phase of which was funded by the Road Maintenance Fund; rehabilitating the western entrance to the city at a cost of $892,000, funded by UNOPS; and rehabilitating the Sofitel Roundabout road, passing through the Al-Qasr Roundabout and reaching the entrance to the camp, at a cost of 123 million riyals, funded by the Ministry of Finance.
District Development Sector
Rural development is of paramount importance in enhancing development efforts, services, and social and livelihood stability. The governorate's districts have received, and continue to receive, a significant share of projects, with the inauguration and laying of foundation stones for development and service projects in various fields in the districts of Sharab al-Rawnah, Sharab al-Salam, Maweyah, Jabal Habashi, al-Taezeyah, and Maqbanah, totaling more than two billion riyals.
Agricultural Development Sector
The agricultural development sector is a priority in the state's general directives and government programs. It receives exceptional support from the revolutionary, political, and local leadership, as a key gateway to achieving an ambitious agricultural revolution that meets present and future requirements to achieve food security.
Based on the contribution of cooperative societies to the development process, their pivotal role has been activated by supplying them with six modern plows and three loaders for the agricultural sector. Agricultural expansion in grain and legume crops is underway as a first phase, with the production of 200,000 coffee seedlings and 100,000 guava, pomegranate, lemon, and mango seedlings.
Among the agricultural projects implemented during the year 1446 AH, according to the local authority's report, were the purchase of solar energy systems for farmers in the Maqbanah district, the rehabilitation and maintenance of the Qiyadh Canal, approximately 3 kilometers long, the protection of agricultural lands and the maintenance of irrigation canals in al- Janadeyah al-Olya area in al-Taezeyah district, and the construction of 18 barriers and dams in several districts.
The agricultural projects also included the distribution of 1,200 sheep and goats to some districts to improve community living, the distribution of two agricultural plows to the Maqbanah district, and the rehabilitation of the agricultural complex building in Khadir district at a cost of 600 million, funded by the local authority.
Agricultural projects also included capacity building for agricultural offices and agricultural associations in the districts, at an estimated cost of approximately 11 million riyals. Economic empowerment included allocating 300 million riyals to develop productive families in the cattle and dairy sectors in the districts of Khadir, Maqbanah, al-Taezeyah, and Maweyah. The projects also included the establishment of two seed banks as part of the Food Security Report Response Project in the districts of al-Taezeyah and Sharab al-Rawnah, at an estimated cost of 64,000 dollars, and an agricultural research station, at an estimated cost of 20 million riyals.
