Amran - Saba
The Amran Water Basin Committee, chaired by Governor Dr. Faisal Jaman, held a meeting to review 24 applications for drilling and deepening water wells across various districts in the governorate.
Attendees included officials from the Water Resources Authority, the Local Water and Sanitation Corporation, the Environmental Protection Authority, and representatives from several districts.
The committee approved a number of applications that met legal requirements, while rejecting others that failed to comply with regulatory standards. It also accepted some member proposals to allow joint ventures on adjacent well requests.
Governor Jaman emphasized the need to regulate well drilling based on actual necessity, warning against any illegal or unlicensed digging to prevent over-extraction of groundwater and preserve the Amran water basin. He called on relevant authorities to coordinate efforts to protect water levels and enforce water resource laws.
Engineer Fahd Sufyan from the Water Resources Authority reviewed technical aspects of the submitted requests, including their locations, legal justifications, and compliance with water laws and local decisions. He reaffirmed that licenses are only granted based on strict legal and technical criteria.
