The Government Media Office in the Gaza Strip strongly condemned on Monday the Israeli occupation’s abduction of Dr. Marwan al-Hums, Director of Abu Youssef al-Najjar Hospital, and the killing and injury of those accompanying him, describing the incident as a “full-fledged war crime.”
In a statement, the media office explained that an Israeli enemy special forces unit abducted Dr. al-Hums—who also serves as the Director of Field Hospitals in the Gaza Strip—while he was carrying out routine humanitarian and medical duties en route to the field hospital in the southern part of the Strip.
The statement called on the international community, particularly the International Committee of the Red Cross—which witnessed the crime near one of its affiliated hospitals—to clarify its stance on this serious violation.
It urged immediate and urgent action to secure Dr. al-Hums' release and to put an end to the ongoing brutal violations, stressing the need to hold the leaders of the Israeli occupation accountable for their systematic crimes against medical and humanitarian personnel in Gaza.
The statement held the Israeli occupation fully responsible for Dr. al-Hums’ life and safety.
The media office considered the abduction of Dr. al-Hums another crime added to the bloody record of the Israeli enemy and its blatant violations of international and humanitarian laws.
It emphasized that this crime constitutes a grave and serious breach of the most basic principles of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions, which explicitly criminalize targeting medical teams during the performance of their humanitarian duties.
