Washington - Saba:
Former U.S. President Donald Trump accused former President Barack Obama on Sunday of orchestrating election fraud in the 2016 presidential election.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump commented on a speech by U.S. Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard and White House Deputy Press Secretary Harrison Fields, as reported by Russia’s Sputnik News Agency: “The committee did a great job speaking about the need to prosecute Obama and the clearly exposed ‘thugs’ for election fraud at the highest level.”
Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard released what she described on Friday as “conclusive evidence” that claims of Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. elections were fabricated by the Obama administration after Trump’s victory.
According to documents previously released by Gabbard’s office, the Obama administration withheld intelligence indicating that Russia “had neither the intention nor the capability” to hack the U.S. electoral system in 2016.
In May 2023, a report by U.S. Special Counsel John Durham concluded that U.S. law enforcement and intelligence agencies had no solid evidence of alleged collusion between Trump and Russia in the 2016 election.
The report noted that the FBI had no information suggesting that any of Trump’s associates were in contact with Russian intelligence services.
Durham concluded that the FBI should not have launched a full investigation into the Trump campaign’s ties to Russia and that the agency relied on “raw, unverified, and unanalyzed intelligence” to initiate the probe.
Russia has repeatedly denied U.S. allegations of interference in American elections, with the Kremlin insisting the claims are “completely unfounded.”
