Grossi overlooks Iranian nuclear facility attacks, comments on fire near Russian plant
[19/ July/2025]
Vienna – Saba:
Despite ignoring recent strikes by Israeli and American forces on Iran’s peaceful nuclear energy facilities, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director Rafael Grossi addressed Saturday a Ukrainian attack that caused a fire near a Russian nuclear power plant—highlighting a striking double standard.

Grossi stated that the forest fire near Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant does not pose a threat to the facility and emphasized that there is currently no nuclear safety risk.

In a post on his X account, the IAEA chief explained that experts at the Russian plant observed smoke caused by forest fires resulting from Ukrainian shelling, but confirmed the fire remained at a safe distance from the nuclear installation.

Earlier, Tehran accused Grossi of paving the way for the Zionist-American aggression against Iran, criticizing him for hastily discussing Iran’s nuclear ambitions while avoiding condemnation of attacks by a non-signatory entity of the International Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons on a treaty member state.

Iran also accused Grossi and IAEA inspectors of espionage at Iranian nuclear sites, alleging that they relayed sensitive information and coordinates to Washington and the Israeli enemy.
