Ibb – SABA:

The Emergency Committee in Ibb Governorate, chaired by the Secretary-General of the Local Council, Amin Al-Warafi, convened today to assess the progress of measures related to rainwater drainage and to address urgent flood management efforts in the central districts of the governorate.

The meeting included Deputy Governors Abdulwahid Al-Marawi and Harith Al-Maliki, along with directors and officials from relevant offices and sectors. Participants reviewed reports from the Public Works, Sanitation, Water, and Electricity sectors regarding ongoing efforts to remove debris, mitigate damage, clean and widen stormwater channels, and maintain flood drainage systems.

The committee approved several urgent actions to address flood-related damage and resolve recurring drainage issues as swiftly as possible.

Al-Warafi stressed the need to raise preparedness levels to minimize flood risks and ensure effective rainwater drainage. He reaffirmed the local authority’s commitment to protecting citizens and preventing potential harm from floodwaters.

He called for unified efforts to carry out emergency rainwater management tasks, including clearing debris and soil from flood pathways and opening blocked culverts.

Al-Warafi directed all relevant departments to deploy equipment and machinery to open flood channels and ensure proper execution of their responsibilities in safeguarding public safety.

He also urged the Civil Defense Authority to honor its obligations under its agreement with the local government by providing the necessary equipment and machinery to strengthen its emergency response capacity in the governorate.

Finally, the Public Works, Sanitation, and Traffic Police departments were tasked with promptly launching campaigns to remove informal stalls, random structures, and waste from stormwater channels, and to reopen rainwater drainage routes in the central districts of Ibb.
