Study Finds Link Between Eczema and Chronic Kidney Disease
[18/ July/2025]

Taipei - Saba:

A recent medical study conducted by researchers in Taiwan has revealed a connection between eczema and an increased risk of developing chronic kidney disease (CKD).

According to the Journal of Dermatology, scientists from the National Defense Medical Center in Taiwan carried out a study to investigate the effects of eczema on the body. They compared the medical data of 15,000 individuals with eczema to that of around 60,000 individuals without the condition.

The findings showed a significant increase in the risk of chronic kidney disease among those with eczema, regardless of gender or age. Researchers also observed that the risk of kidney problems rose with the frequency of doctor visits related to eczema flare-ups.

The research team believes that the underlying cause of this connection may be chronic inflammation associated with eczema — an inflammatory response that may affect not only the skin but also internal organs, including the kidneys.

Despite these findings, the researchers noted that the precise mechanism linking eczema and kidney disease remains unclear. They emphasized the urgent need for further research to confirm the hypothesis and better understand how this effect occurs.
