Brazil considered NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte's comments regarding sanctions in response to increased trade relations with Russia "meaningless and inappropriate."
Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira said in an interview with CNN Brasil: "The NATO Secretary General's comments are completely inappropriate. First, because NATO is a military alliance and does not negotiate trade agreements. Second, because Brazil is not a member."
