Al-Dhalea – SABA:
Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources Dr. Radwan Al-Rubaie, along with Acting Governor of Al-Dhalea Abdul Latif Al-Shughadri, inaugurated today 23 agricultural and fisheries projects in the governorate, with a total value of 598,300,631 Yemeni riyals.
The projects were funded by the local authority through the Agricultural and Fisheries Projects and Initiatives Financing Unit in coordination with the agricultural sector.
The inaugurated projects, witnessed by Deputy Governor Sadiq Al-Idrisi and Assistant Commander of the Fourth Military Region Brig. Gen. Mohammed Al-Khaled, span several key sectors: institutional and social development, marketing and services, and the development of both livestock and crops.
Minister Al-Rubaie stated that these projects are part of the directives from the revolutionary leader Abdul-Malik Badr Al-Din Al-Houthi and the Supreme Political Council, aligning with the Transformation and Development Government’s agenda to boost agricultural growth and enhance food security in the governorate.
He emphasized the importance of prioritizing agricultural projects—both institutionally and at the community level—alongside livestock, crops, services, and water resource development.
Al-Rubaie confirmed that Al-Dhalea will be given priority this year in initiatives aimed at replacing imported products with locally produced ones. He highlighted the potential for the governorate to produce legumes and other crops that could serve as substitutes in local agro-industrial supply chains.
He also noted that factory owners and investors have shown willingness to absorb local production and urged farmers and producers in Al-Dhalea to focus on improving the competitiveness of local products.
For his part, Acting Governor Al-Shughadri declared 1447 AH (2025) the “Year of Agricultural Development” in coordination with agricultural cooperatives. He also noted the governorate’s past community-driven efforts in building dams and water barriers.
Meanwhile, Nabil Al-Muraqab, Head of the Agricultural Sector and Executive Unit, reviewed the projects implemented and under implementation across various districts in partnership with the Agricultural Sector. These include the expansion of wheat, maize, and legume cultivation, with feasibility studies also underway.
He praised the support and coordination among the local authority, the Supreme Agricultural and Fisheries Committee, and the Ministry of Agriculture, which have been crucial to successfully launching these projects.
